What is BoozyScience?

BoozyScience is a uniquely curated monthly event for diverse millennials that enjoy partying, meeting new people and being stimulated by the wonders of science. At BoozyScience we party different. While you imbibe, laugh with your friends and hit your two step—you will be exposed to cutting edge research by millennial scientist, technologists, explorers and adventurers.

About our Past Speakers

Tia Rutherford

Tiaa Booker Rutherford is an emerging leader in the fields of environmental health science and urban planning in Prince George’s County, Maryland where she serves as the Litter Reduction Program Manager for the Department of the Environment. She manages and develops litter reduction programs, and fosters partnerships across municipal jurisdictions in the Washington Metropolitan region.

Atum Buo

Atum Buo was raised in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He received his BS in Chemistry from Haverford College in 2007 and completed his Ph.D training in Molecular Medicine from the University of Maryland, Baltimore in 2017.

Atum recently started a postdoctoral fellowship as part of the Center for Public Health Genomics at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. While he still specializes in bone research, his current work is more in the realm of systems genetics and focuses on the impact of genomic variation on bone strength and fracture risk. Atum hopes that his research will lead to the discovery of new genes that play a role in bone strength and ultimately contribute to the development of therapies against bone diseases such as osteoporosis.
